Hanover Fair 2018
The nominees for the Hermes Award 2018
The five finalists for the Hermes Award 2018 have been announced! Deutsche Messe, organizer of the Hannover Messe, has made its decision. The winner will be announced by Federal Research Minister Anja Karliczek on April 22 following the opening ceremony of the industrial trade fair.
Every year, Deutsche Messe honors a technological innovation with the Hermes Award, which is presented for the first time at the world's most important industrial trade fair - the Hannover Messe. "The Hermes Award is the world's most important technology prize for industry. Anyone whose solution makes it into the top 5 can count themselves among the world's most innovative companies," says Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Messe AG. The five nominated solutions will be presented to a large audience at the Hannover Messe on April 22. "The nominated products underline the trend towards self-learning and autonomous systems based on artificial intelligence and smart sensor technology as drivers of the second wave of digitalization," says Prof. Wolfgang Wahlster on the selection of the nominees. "People will continue to take center stage and will be supported in their work by cognitive or physical assistance systems such as augmented reality glasses or exoskeletons in the future."
The following companies have been nominated for the Hermes Award this year:
Last year, Schunk won the Hermes Award for the development of the 'JL1', an intelligent gripper specially designed for human-robot collaboration. The safety sensor system for collision avoidance is integrated into the gripper and does not restrict the range of movement for handling and assembly processes. The sensor system monitors a defined safety zone. If a collision is imminent, the system reacts according to the situation.
