Austrian Post installs tracking solution

Austrian Post is now using the Sigfox 0G network and is equipping 40,000 roll containers with intelligent sensors as a first step. The operator of the Austrian Sigfox IoT low-power wide-area network is Heliot Europe.

Before the Christmas season, Austrian Post (ÖPAG) plans to equip around 40,000 roll containers with intelligent sensors that can be used to track the location of each container via the Sigfox 0G network. The Sigfox Atlas WiFi and Sigfox Atlas Native product features are used to geolocalize the roll containers. Through triangulation within the Sigfox network, the approximate position can also be calculated without a WLAN connection. Depending on the density of the WLAN networks, the accuracy ranges from a few meters to around 100 meters. The sensors are manufactured by AlpsAlpine, an IoT solution partner for Sigfox products.
By using the trackers, ÖPAG now wants to save costs, optimize supply chains, avoid empty deliveries and minimize excess stock of rolling containers. At the same time, the CO2 footprint can also be reduced by optimizing the transport routes of the roll containers.

Europe's largest Sigfox 0G network

Sigfox Germany is the largest subsidiary of Heliot Europe and operates the Sigfox 0G network in Germany under this name. Based in Vienna, Lausanne and Munich, Heliot, which was founded in Switzerland in 2017, is the exclusive operator of the Sigfox 0G IoT LPWA network in Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Liechtenstein, making it the largest 0G network operator in Europe.

The Sigfox 0G network is available in 72 countries worldwide. The transnational Sigfox technology is a European solution and is already fully operational today. It is also a sensible and cost-effective alternative to the existing narrowband network Narrowband Internet of Things (NBIoT).

Austria currently has 44% network coverage, which already includes the majority of all important Austrian infrastructure locations for logistics and agriculture. Network coverage is to be expanded to 65% by the end of the year.
