The iLCD panels from demmel products can now also be programmed in Java. The company has announced the release of its on-board Java Virtual Machine (Java VM). The compiled Java code is executed in the Java VM running on the iLCD controller. All iLCD functionalities can be realized in Java as well as with the previously known commands, often no external controller is necessary to control a complete application. According to the manufacturer, the object-oriented concept of Java is well suited to the implementation of user interfaces. Java is also less error-prone than C, for example. The Java application can be created using the integrated compiler and then loaded and executed directly on the display via the USB interface. An integrated debugger is also available, with which remote debugging of the generated Java application can be carried out directly on the connected display via the existing USB interface. Standard features such as breakpoints and variable inspection are included. According to the manufacturer, the entire development and debugging environment can be set up within a few minutes by installing or updating the iLCD Manager XE.
