MSC Technologies has introduced the PAN1761 Bluetooth Smart / NFC module from Panasonic, which is based on the "TC35xxx" chipsets from Toshiba. The combination module is Bluetooth LE 4.1 and NFC Forum Class 3 compatible and designed for the industrial temperature range of -40 to +85 °C. The module is suitable for applications that require a high level of security when pairing with other devices. It can also be used for particularly critical applications that require low power consumption in standby mode. If the module's Bluetooth is in standby mode, it can be switched off completely. It is woken up via NFC. According to the provider, a very secure connection can be established during Bluetooth pairing by identifying and confirming the Bluetooth address using NFC. This feature is particularly interesting for payment, security or smart home applications. In addition to the obligatory UART, the module has ten GPIOs, wake-up control pins and ADCs. With a receiver sensitivity of -91 dBm and a Bluetooth LE-typical output power of 0 dBm, data rates of 500 kbps can be achieved. The module supports OTA (Over the Air Update) and the software functions GAP Central and Peripheral Mode as well as SPP over GATT.
