Vision measuring system for automated container inspection

With 'FrameSense', VMT Vision Machine Technic Bildverarbeitungssysteme has developed a static 3D measuring system for checking the type, shape and position of containers.

According to VMT, the measured values enable reliable and collision-free path guidance of robots during the automated loading of such storage and transport aids, even with increased position and alignment tolerances or possible interfering contours. The hardware system architecture consists of 3D camera sensors with integrated measurement field illumination. Calibration and consolidation of the measurement data and its evaluation are carried out in a separate IPC with screen visualization, operating elements and connection to the respective robot controller. The software underlying the metrological solution is based on the 'MSS' (Multi Sensor System) software platform. The 3D measurement technology is based on a shape-based probing method. It is not edges, holes and other distinctive component features that are examined, but the entire geometric outer contour of an entire container.
