Foreign object detection for joining and assembly processes
VMT's 3D vision solution ClearSpace 3D detects unwanted foreign objects in automated industrial joining and assembly processes.
A two-stage measurement process also detects interfering objects such as nuts and bolts, tools, splinters or other small parts. The image processing system is designed so that it can be equipped with VMT's own 3D sensors, such as the VMT DeepScan 3D stereo camera system, as well as with 3D sensors from other manufacturers and technologies, such as laser triangulation sensors. The measurement results are evaluated during operation in the VMT MSS software platform. In applications implemented to date, the two-stage evaluation process makes it possible to first detect larger foreign objects with dimensions from 10 mm and then to detect objects with dimensions from 5 mm using downstream fine detection. Depending on the sensor technology selected, this grid can be scaled in both directions.
