Extend3D becomes part of the Atlas Copco Group
Extend3D has been acquired by Atlas Copco. Extend3D's headquarters and the Munich team are now part of the Motor Vehicle Industry Tools & Assembly Systems division within the Industrial Technique business area.
Among other things, Atlas Copco supplies intelligent tools and solutions for automated quality inspection as well as for all types of manual assembly and reworking processes. Extend3D aims to precisely visualize digital 3D information about parts and assemblies using augmented reality to improve manual processes for manufacturing, quality assurance and rework. This has recently been supplemented by image processing, AI and tool tracking for integrated completeness/accuracy checks, resulting in an end-to-end digitalized process chain for Industry 4.0.
According to the companies, the merger with Atlas Copco holds potential for embedding these systems and technologies in the form of lean and ergonomic tools. The companies are convinced that such digital solutions will soon become indispensable for manual processes in the industry.
"The acquisition expands our offering in process and quality control with a diverse portfolio of augmented reality products specifically designed for assembly operations with high complexity and high quality requirements," says Henrik Elmin, SVP and Business Area President Industrial Technique at Atlas Copco.
"The integration of dynamic AR projection into Atlas Copco's manual assembly stations and tools eliminates many of the previously complicated system boundaries between different digital assistance systems and their connection to a standardized data supply in the workshop," says Peter Keitler, CEO and future Managing Director of Extend3D.
