Ambienta buys Mikrotron
The private equity investor Ambienta is buying the Unterschleissheim-based image processing technology manufacturer Mikrotron. Following the acquisition of Tattile in 2012, this is Ambienta's second step towards building a European group of companies for image processing.
Ambienta specializes in investing in companies for environmentally friendly technologies and has recently started pursuing the project of a group of companies called "LakeSight Technologies". At its core are Tattile and, in future, Mikrotron; the plan is to add further image processing companies. The aim of LakeSight Technologies is to unite smaller providers on a European platform. Within the group, sales channels, management capacities and investment programs could be shared, thus creating synergies. In the medium term, LakeSight Technologies aims to achieve consolidated sales in the region of EUR 40 to 50 million and establish a global distribution network.
Mikrotron generates annual sales of around EUR 10 million and offers high-speed cameras and recording systems for applications in various industries. "We see Ambienta and Tattile as strong partners who can support Mikrotron in continuing its successful growth path," explains Christian Pilzer, Managing Director of Mikrotron. This strategy has clearly already worked for Tattile: The company, based in Brescia in northern Italy, has reportedly successfully completed a restructuring since the takeover by Ambienta, introduced new products to the market and increased its turnover by 50% as a result.
