VDMA: Corona measures are correct and necessary
The mechanical engineering association VDMA has described the partial lockdown to contain coronavirus infections as correct and necessary.
"A look at our neighboring countries Belgium and the Czech Republic shows the potential threat," said the new VDMA President Karl Haeusgen on Thursday. For some sectors of the economy, November will be associated with severe losses. "However, with the measures that have now been decided, large parts of the industry can remain in operation and thus play their part in securing employment." The federal and state governments have learned from the spring. At that time, public life had largely come to a standstill. The economy collapsed in the second quarter.
In Haeusgen's view, measures are needed to protect areas that have been particularly hard hit, such as restaurants and cultural institutions, from general closures. At the same time, Europe must ensure that supply chains remain intact across borders. "Germany must set a clearer course here with its Council Presidency," warned the VDMA President.
