In future, PCB assembly, assembly, plastics production and logistics processes will take place in the new production building. According to Weidmüller, the investment volume amounts to around 60 million euros. Construction is expected to take just under two years and production in the new production building is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2025.

Volker Bibelhausen, Chief Technology Officer and CEO of Weidmüller, on the start of the major project: "With the new electronics production facility in Detmold, we are strengthening Germany as a location and offering interesting jobs in East Westphalia-Lippe. The project is an important step towards further expanding our innovative strength and competitiveness in electronics."

Sustainable and local-for-local

The concept for the new building includes modern equipment and a high degree of automation. The focus is on energy efficiency with reversible heat pumps for heating and cooling the hall as well as heat recovery from production waste heat. Additional heat requirements will be covered by district heating. The entire roof area of the building will be equipped with a 600 kWp photovoltaic system.

Dr. Sebastian Durst, Chief Operations Officer at Weidmüller, commented on the launch of the major project: "We attach great importance to sustainability and energy efficiency in all areas of our new production building. On the one hand, the building concept provides for the use of renewable energies. On the other hand, we are producing in Detmold specifically for our European customers, thereby reducing transportation routes and ourCO2 footprint."

Construction began with a symbolic laying of the foundation stone on August 14, 2023.
