An 'Amazon of manufacturing'

Dassault Systèmes has launched a marketplace for industrial services and content providers. Already on board: 50 manufacturers with more than 500 machines and 30 million components from 600 suppliers.

In an overview, users of the platform can see the dimensional tolerance of the components and the processing time that the various pavers can offer.

The cloud-based '3DExperience Marketplace' from Dassault Systèmes is a new trading platform for digital design, engineering and manufacturing transactions. The aim: "We want to change the industrial world in a similar way to how companies like Amazon changed retail," says Stephanie Stuhrmann, Channel Marketing Specialist at Dassault Systemes.

The marketplace offers two services: In 'Make', customers can have their parts manufactured and collaborate with manufacturers worldwide. This includes manufacturing processes such as 3D printing, CNC machining, injection molding and sheet metal processing. There are already 50 manufacturers with over 500 different machines. The 'Partsupply' service, on the other hand, is an online catalog for 3D components. Every Solidworks user can select from over 600 suppliers worldwide and over 30 million parts at the click of a mouse.

The system also manages all aspects of a transaction between buyer and seller, such as payments, currencies and invoicing.
