The environmentally friendly alternative to the fossil-based plastics commonly used today are plastics made from plant-based raw materials. Plant-based raw materials have a CO₂-neutral footprint over their entire life cycle, which leads to a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions overall. In addition, bio-based plastics often have a lower density than fossil-based plastics, which leads to lower material consumption. Bioplastics also meet all technical and visual requirements. According to Schurter, products made from bioplastics offer the same performance and service life as those made from fossil, crude oil-based plastic, with all international approvals.
