Mourning for Wolfgang Hohorst
Wolfgang Hohorst, Managing Partner of Wago Kontakttechnik for many years, passed away on May 15, 2022 at the age of 87.
Wolfgang Hohorst played a key role in shaping the family business Wago from the time he joined in 1961 until his operational retirement in 2006. Under his leadership, the medium-sized family business rose to become the world market leader in spring clamp technology and grew into an internationally operating group of companies with numerous subsidiaries and production facilities in Germany, Europe, Asia and the USA.
A company milestone that can be traced back to one of his ideas is the invention of the universal spring clamping technology 'Cage Clamp', which is now the global industry standard.
He also promoted young talent out of conviction. His Wago Foundation, established in 1998, aims to promote the training and further education of young people interested in technology and focuses on dual training.
In 2006, Wolfgang Hohorst was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his entrepreneurial achievements and social commitment. He was involved as a board member of the Entrepreneurs' Association and was voted Entrepreneur of the Year in East Westphalia-Lippe in 1994.
"His belief in good ideas and, above all, in the people behind them have made Wago the company it is today. What was important to him over the years was the community spirit he invoked at all levels of the company, which he exemplified and also wished for the future: 'Everything starts with human encounters and everything will continue with them'. His work at Wago continues to influence all our work - day after day. We are losing an impressive personality in our father. Putting people at the center and the will to shape the future are values and goals that will continue to accompany us," says his son Sven Hohorst, himself a long-standing Managing Partner of the Wago Group and current member of the Advisory Board.
