The wheel hub motor is an external rotor motor and was designed as a direct drive without a gearbox. In an external rotor motor, the rotor rotates around the stator so that it can be used as a drive wheel by attaching a rubber-coated rim to the rotor. Features of the Maccon wheel hub motor include a short axial length (<50 mm) with a high power density, according to the supplier. Nominal torques of 8 Nm and a nominal speed of up to 480 rpm can be achieved with the motor.

The wheel hub motor is equipped with an integrated magnetic encoder for precise position detection and speed control. The motor is operated with 36 to 60 V(DC). Seals between the rotating rotor and the mounting flange or stator prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture. Thanks to the use of an angular contact ball bearing, the motor is also suitable for absorbing high radial and axial loads.
