Specifically, ABB Germany was able to increase its operating earnings before interest, taxes and amortization (operating EBITA) by 15 % to 270 million euros in the past financial year. By contrast, order intake fell by a total of 9% to 3.1 billion euros, which according to Hans-Georg Krabbe, CEO of ABB Germany, was due to a decline in major orders as a result of the historic NordLink project in the previous year. In the electrical wholesale sector, on the other hand, order intake increased by 10%, in the food and beverage sector by as much as 40%.

ABB Germany's sales also declined, falling by 5% compared to 2015 to €3.28 billion.

A look at the individual divisions

According to Krabbe, the Electrification Products division developed positively in 2016. Incoming orders amounted to 1.3 billion euros, up 2% on the previous year. Turnover increased by 4% to 1.3 billion euros.

The Robotics and Drives division recorded a 3% increase in incoming orders compared to the previous year. It amounted to 506 million euros. Sales were 2% below the previous year's figure and amounted to 486 million euros.

At EUR 506 million, incoming orders in the Industrial Automation division were 15% down on the previous year. This was due to fewer major orders compared to the previous year. However, sales increased significantly by 9% to EUR 565 million.

Finally, the Power Grids division saw a decline in both incoming orders and sales. According to Krabbe, there were also fewer major orders here compared to the previous year. Specifically, incoming orders amounted to EUR 786 million, which corresponds to a decrease of 24%. Turnover fell by 21% to 917 million euros.
