Inka Krischke,

Reuse instead of waste

KBK Antriebstechnik has been offering a special recycling service since summer 2019. Managing Director Sven Karpstein explains which one.

Sven Karpstein: "The additional work is minimal and the benefits for everyone are considerable."

Mr. Karpstein, what does your recycling concept look like?

Sven Karpstein:
We deliver our products - especially our clutches - in sturdy plastic containers, which often end up in the bin after transportation. From now on, this packaging will be collected and reused.

How does this actually work?

Sven Karpstein: It's actually a simple concept: customers collect the packaging in a large box. When it is full, they send us a short e-mail. We then take care of collecting the packaging. This service is free of charge, of course, and there is no additional cost for the customer.

But it does for you ...

Sven Karpstein: The additional work is really minimal and the benefit for everyone is quite great. So far, we have been able to clean and reuse a large proportion of the returns, which of course has a value that we offset against the transportation costs. All in all, the new packaging recycling concept has proven to be effective and sensible.

How has the concept been received by customers?

Sven Karpstein: Fortunately, we have already been able to convince some customers of the new concept. If you look at it closely, it also has advantages for them: They no longer have to pay much attention to disposal, waste separation and storage, but simply put everything back in the box in which the goods were delivered.

How did you come up with the idea of this closed-loop system?

Sven Karpstein: The issue of plastic waste has become very topical; we regularly see images on television of all the mountains of garbage floating in our oceans. As part of our various environmental protection measures, we have gone one step further and are trying to include our customers in the cycle.
