Maxon throws 'motor' overboard

As of July 1, 2019, Maxon Motor is dropping the word 'Motor' from its company name and will operate under the 'Maxon' brand in future. At the same time, the company achieves sales of over 500 million Swiss francs for the first time.

In future without 'Motor': Since July 1, 2019, the Swiss drive technology manufacturer has been known simply as 'Maxon'.

There are several reasons for the change of name: On the one hand, the company is transforming itself from a motor and component manufacturer into a specialist for precise drive systems with a focus on five core markets (medical technology, aerospace, industrial automation, transportation and e-mobility & robotics). On the other hand, Maxon is adapting its corporate structure and positioning itself as a group with a global presence that nevertheless responds to local needs.

Group sales rose by 14.7% to 526.3 million Swiss francs, compared to 459 million Swiss francs in the previous year. All global markets contributed to sales growth. In Europe, Germany is the largest sales market, followed by Switzerland. Every sales company in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa) set a new sales record in 2018. Maxon also recorded its highest turnover to date in the USA. In China, sales have doubled within five years. Medical technology remains Maxon's most important market, accounting for around 42% of sales, followed by industrial automation and robotics (27%), measurement and testing technology (7%), the automotive industry (5.3%) and aerospace (5%).

Due to the generally uncertain economic development, the company expects moderate growth for the current financial year.
