The two researchers Sebastian Jahn and Julian Krydl developed their chess robot 'Chess Buddy' as part of their diploma thesis at the Linz Technical College of Mechatronics. In addition to 17 stepper motors and sensors, an Igus linear system operates inside the robot.
The aim of their project was to construct a machine that is able to move pieces on the chessboard itself. It should recognize the moves of the human opponent and reset incorrect moves.
