Integrated safety technology
With the 'CS..A' series, SEW-Eurodrive offers five plug-in cards for functional safety for the 'Movidrive' application inverters of the 'Movi-C' modular automation system. All cards have four safe inputs that can be used for logic operations.
The 'CSS31A' and 'CSA31' from SEW-Eurodrive can evaluate an external encoder in addition to the motor encoder. In addition to speed functions such as SLS and SDI, the CSA31A can also be used to implement safe position functions such as SLP and SCA. There are also two safe outputs that can be used, for example, to safely transmit statuses to external devices. If further safe I/Os are required, additional function modules can be connected. While STO is already integrated in the inverter at performance level PL e, the cards can also be used to achieve safe brake control and positioning. Safe communication with a higher-level safety controller can be achieved using either the Profisafe, Safety over Ethercat or CIP-Safety protocols.
