Codesys - The virtual PLC
Supply bottlenecks are currently making it necessary to redesign control systems and convert machines and systems to available control systems. The alternative: A SoftPLC that runs completely hardware-independently - from small, dedicated ARM-based devices to powerful IT server farms, scalable in number and performance as required. This is possible with Codesys Virtual Control SL. The previous Codesys SoftPLC is now even more hardware-independent and runs on containers such as Docker and hypervisor platforms. All modern systems support these technologies and are therefore suitable for virtual control systems. Depending on performance, almost any number of controller instances can be created to replace physical PLCs. The control instances are orchestrated using scripts, tools such as Kubernetes or, in future, the Codesys Automation Server. High-performance virtual LAN is also available in all industrial devices, which is used for communication with I/Os and other field devices: Cost savings through significantly reduced effort for procurement, installation, cabling and maintenance of controllers, dynamic instantiation and simplified roll-out of PLC applications.
