Drive electronics - generation change announced

SEW-Eurodrive gave visitors to SPS IPC Drives 2016 a glimpse into the future: starting with the introduction of its new 'Movi-C' generation of electronics, the Bruchsal-based company is heralding a generational change in technology.

Claus Wieder, SEW-Eurodrive: "Thanks to the higher level of integration and the improved communication options of Movi-C, new applications can now be developed extremely easily."

According to Claus Wieder, Head of Market Management at SEW-Eurodrive, the new technology platform will cover the entire range of drive electronics - from control technology, software and inverter technology to decentralized technology and motor technology. The first step in the upcoming generation change will be the presentation of the upcoming electronics portfolio under the Movi-C brand name here in Nuremberg, including the new 'Movidrive modular' multi-axis inverter system. According to Claus Wieder, the latter is already a market-ready product.

A central component of the upcoming Movi-C generation is the new, intuitive 'Movisuite' engineering software. It combines commissioning, configuration and diagnostics across the board - whether standard or functionally safe components, individual inverters or entire machines and systems. In addition to traditional programming, a large number of ready-made software application modules are designed to significantly reduce complexity. "This allows sophisticated motion kinematics to be implemented through simple parameterization," says Wieder.

Particular emphasis has been placed on the consistency of Movi-C: "From the controller to the gear motor vertically and through all electronic products horizontally, the entire automation toolbox is available - and all with just a single engineering software". With Movi-C, consistency also means optimum regulation and control of a wide variety of motor types such as asynchronous, synchronous and servo motors as well as LSPM with just one inverter. Last but not least, SEW-Eurodrive also wants to set new standards in terms of performance with the new drive electronics. For example, the multi-axis system can control up to 32 interpolated axes in just 1 ms when using the Movi-C controller 'power'. SEW-Eurodrive promises further advantages during installation, including the single cable technology and double axis modules used, as well as integrated safety technology in all axes as standard.
