Job market for engineers in decline
The weaker economic and uncertain global conditions are now having a negative impact on the job market for engineers. This is shown by the current skilled labor index for engineers from the personnel service provider Hays.

The index, which has been collected since the 1st quarter of 2015, has never fallen so sharply since then, reports the Mannheim-based personnel service provider Hays.

In the three occupational groups most frequently sought in absolute terms, the number of vacancies fell significantly in the last quarter: for development engineers from 122 to 101, for electrical engineers from 160 to 142 and for civil engineers from 210 to 195 points.

The number of vacancies in mechanical engineering also fell significantly in the last quarter (from 125 to 108 index points). A similar picture can be seen in the manufacturing industry (from 142 to 125 index points) and in the construction industry (from 204 to 189 index points).
The Hays Skilled Labor Index is based on a quarterly evaluation by Index Internet und Mediaforschung GmbH for Hays. It includes job advertisements from the most popular online job exchanges, daily newspapers and the business network Xing. The reference value of 100 is the 1st quarter of 2015.
