In 2018, German plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers still achieved a 2% increase in turnover compared to the previous year, although the originally forecast 3% growth was not achieved. According to the VDMA Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association, German manufacturers of plastics and rubber machinery recorded 1% fewer orders on their books in 2018 than in the previous year. The situation at the end of the year thus marked a turning point after ten years of uninterrupted growth.

As companies recorded a total of 10% fewer orders in the first quarter of 2019 than in the same quarter of the previous year and this trend is expected to continue over the course of the year, the trade association anticipates a drop in sales of at least 10% for the current year.
