Hygienic flow measurement in the food industry

For the hygienic flow measurement of media such as beer, milk or fruit juice, which flow through the pipe in various quantities, ifm offers a solution for the high standards of the food industry with the magnetic-inductive flow sensor 'SM Foodmag'.

While the installed measurement technology can easily cope with changing media such as beer, milk, yoghurt or fruit juices, cleaning processes involving the use of chemicals, rapid temperature changes and hot steam cleaning, which require a minimum temperature of +121°C throughout the entire process, pose enormous challenges for the installed measurement technology. Added to this are vibrations and shocks, which the technology must be able to withstand without any problems if sensors are installed directly downstream of a pump in the process. The magnetic-inductive flow sensor from ifm meets these diverse requirements. It offers the measurement of various measured variables in one device: flow rate, total volume, temperature and conductivity are recorded and output. It also detects whether the measuring tube is completely full. The sensor is available with or without a display. ifm uses an app-based menu and a capacitive push-button concept in the sensor, which, according to the manufacturer, makes parameterization much easier and faster. According to the provider, this concept has no weak points compared to touch displays, even when exposed to moisture or when operated with gloves. The user is also supported by an installation guide, which is optionally available in the menu. An LED ring signals the device status as well as faults or maintenance requirements. The sensor can be installed with just one connection cable.
