Wibu-Systems is an exhibitor at the Computer&AUTOMATION world & conference virtual trade fair. We spoke to Stefan Bamberg, Senior Key Account & Partner Manager at Wibu, about the trends and benefits of virtual events.

What technological priorities are you focusing on as a company this year?

With our protection and licensing solution CodeMeter, we want to specifically address companies from the industry that want to expand their existing sales strategy to include monetizing their machine-related software. Software manufacturers and manufacturers of intelligent devices can offer their customers completely flexible time-based or usage-based license models in order to precisely meet customer requirements. We want to expand the topic of licensing even further this year.

As software that is located in the cloud also needs to be licensed, we are presenting our CmCloud solution to all manufacturers. The CodeMeter Cloud Server provides a CmCloudContainer that contains the license information stored in it. The user accesses this container via the appropriate access data (credentials) in order to be able to use the protected software. The advantage for the manufacturer and user is that licenses can be updated centrally, easily and immediately in the event of changes.

We also focus on the topic of authentication via certificates. Manufacturers can store digital certificates securely in the protective hardware CmDongles, similar to a safe. The central licensing tool CodeMeter License Central is used to create, manage and deliver licenses and, more recently, certificates and cryptographic keys can also be securely transferred to CmDongles.

What advantages do you see in the virtual exchange with customers and users?

During virtual exchanges, we can get in touch with virtual visitors, eliminating all travel costs. At both virtual and traditional trade fairs, we seek direct communication in order to respond specifically to the requirements of our visitors.

What can visitors to the virtual Computer&AUTOMATION world & conference trade fair expect at your virtual stand?

At the stand, software manufacturers and manufacturers of intelligent devices will receive information on how to protect and license their software and data in line with their requirements. Our CodeMeter technology offers all manufacturers software protection, so that they can protect their software and their valuable algorithms and processes from reverse engineering and copying, and licensing options, so that software usage can be sold as required, but also security, i.e. protection of the software against unintentional changes or manipulation.

Brief description: Until a few years ago, licensing the features of a machine was unthinkable. Free software for control was taken for granted by customers. In the meantime, however, things have changed. On the one hand, the development of software is becoming increasingly complex, while on the other, customers are prepared to pay for attractive additional functionalities. Flexible license models enable new sources of revenue.
