Inka Krischke,

Safe & secure at the same time

Safety and security are essential requirements for smart production. The Pilz stand will therefore focus on concepts that can be used to secure access to the machine - physically and virtually.

At Pilz, everything revolves around safe access control on plant and machinery.

Using various models and live demonstrations, visitors can experience automation solutions from Pilz that cover both safety - i.e. machine safety - and industrial security. For example, a safety gate model on the exhibition stand illustrates what safe access to plant and machinery can look like: Here, a modular safety gate system interacts with a safe, modular operating mode selection and access authorization system. In combination with a configurable small controller, authentication and authorization can be flexibly implemented using a read-out unit with RFID technology. An industrial firewall protects the solution against unauthorized access and manipulation.

When it comes to industrial security, users should always ensure that they pursue the defense-in-depth principle in addition to organizational measures, such as creating internal guidelines on industrial security and using firewalls: This is based on constantly putting new and different obstacles in the way of intruders. This makes it more difficult for attackers to reach their target. The trick is to create as many obstacles as possible on as many levels as possible.

Segmentation into 'zones and conduits' should also be taken into account: Zones with devices with similar security requirements should be sealed off from each other by firewalls or secure routers so that only those devices that are actually authorized can send and receive via the lines (conduits) between the zones.

Other models and live demonstrations on the stand include the 'Pilz Smart Factory', which demonstrates the interaction of the company's safety solutions from sensor, control and drive technology. A live presentation will provide information on the topic of 'access control'. And last but not least, visitors can experience service robotics modules in action: An intralogistics application will be used to demonstrate the combination of automated guided vehicles with Pilz service robotics modules.
