More safety on the rails

Lütze Transportation presents 'Lion-Safe AI', a safe expansion module with four analog inputs.

The four analog inputs of the module from Lütze record sensor signals in the typical and calibrated application range from 4 to 20 mA. The physical measuring range has been extended and lies in the range from -30 mA to +30 mA. Intelligent diagnostic information can be prepared on the basis of this extended measuring range: On the one hand, an error message no longer has to be issued automatically if the 4 to 20 mA limit is temporarily exceeded. On the other hand, the channel status can be used to display the measuring range of the currently measured sensor data and whether it is outside or within the permissible range by means of an LED; this in turn allows conclusions to be drawn about the functionality of the connected sensor. Each of the four analogue channels can be individually parameterized in four stages via an input filter. This allows certain unwanted signals to be filtered out, such as short pulses and flickering.

With its space-saving dimensions of 66 mm x 160 mm x 63 mm, the module is suitable for top-hat rail mounting in closed electrical operating areas or for installation in the driver's cab and passenger compartment. It has approvals for worldwide use and complies with SIL 2 standards (EN 50129, EN 50128, EN 50126). Typical applications can be found on metro trains, locomotives and traction units for processing safety data, such as pressure and temperature sensors.

Lion stands for Lütze Input Output Network and has been specially developed for use on rail vehicles for applications up to SIL2. The modular design allows the user to adapt the composition of the I/O station to the respective area of application by connecting different modules and combining functionalities depending on the task. There is a choice of power supplies, bus couplers, digital and analog modules with safe or non-safe inputs and outputs. Communication takes place via the L-Bus2.
