IO-Link becomes safe

The IO-Link community has published the IO-Link safety specification for international review on its website(http://www.io-link.com).

The "change request" will run until the end of January 2017. Once the comments received by then have been incorporated, the final specification should be approved over the course of the coming year. At the same time, the IO-Link consortium has already initiated the certification process with TÜV Süd.

Applications up to SIL 3 are possible with IO-Link Safety. The IO-Link safety masters are responsible for implementing the safety standards available on the market, such as Profisafe, CIP safety or FSoE. For more complex devices, safety-related "dedicated tools" are required for parameterization. IO-Link Safety also provides a standardized software interface for this purpose. To make implementation easier for device manufacturers, pre-certified stacks are available from the IO-Link Competence Center of the Karlsruhe Technology Management Group, for example.
