In the age of Industry 4.0 and Big Data, the topic of IT security is becoming increasingly important. Computer&AUTOMATION has summarized product innovations in the field of security in a series of pictures.
Additional security functions are now available in the manufacturer-independent IEC 61131-3 software platform Codesys, which secure compatible devices against unauthorized access and thus make them fit for the Industrial Ethernet or IIoT: For example, communication between the IDE, the 'Codesys Development System' and the corresponding runtime system 'Codesys Control' can now be encrypted with X.509 certificates. This protection covers both the download of compiled applications to the intelligent device and communication in online mode, for example during debugging during commissioning or when operating with a graphical user interface. If the user interfaces are optionally displayed via 'Codesys WebVisu' in the HMTL5 browser, communication with the web server can also be secured on a key basis. The certificate keys are managed directly in Codesys - in the IDE and in the runtime system. The 'boot application', i.e. the translated and automatically started program, can therefore also be signed using the key on the target device. Users can thus ensure that the application is neither manipulated nor copied and distributed without authorization.
