The roots of Emsisoft can be traced back to 1999. Back then, Managing Director Christian Mairoll repeatedly received the backdoor Trojan "Back Orifice" via ICQ. When this caused his CD drive to open and close again and again, his curiosity was aroused. How does the Trojan work and how do you get rid of it? That was when the first line of code for Emsisoft Anti-Malware was written. What started out as a hobby became an anti-malware company in Austria in 2003, which today employs 40 people worldwide who are connected via a virtual company structure.

The global company is headquartered in New Zealand and its portfolio includes anti-ransomware, cloud management, enterprise security and server services.
