Hima
Customer Solutions Center expanded to include Security Lab
Hima has opened a Security Lab at the Customer Solutions Center in Brühl. The provider of safety-oriented automation solutions intends to develop and test holistic OT security solutions for the digitalization of functional safety there in the future.
In the Security Lab, Hima works closely with IT security specialist Genua. The technologies of the company, which is part of the Bundesdruckerei Group, comply with numerous recommendations of the user association NAMUR. As part of the cooperation between Hima and Genua, the Security Lab will showcase data diode applications that are a prerequisite for ensuring a highly secure, practicable implementation of the trend-setting NAMUR Open Architecture (NOA).
In order to develop and test security scenarios under realistic conditions, Hima has brought the 'Security Environment for Functional Safety' to life in the Security Lab. Its security architecture uses solutions from Genua. "The 'Hima Security Environment for Functional Safety' can be combined with various security zones. This means that all scenarios can be simulated, optimized and tested. A lab full of possibilities for beginners and experts," explains Sergej Arent, Director Applications at Hima, responsible for the Customer Solutions Centers. The integration of the Security Lab in our own Customer Solutions Center will enable the analysis of Hima customers' automation networks in the future (Cyber-HAZOP). This can be used to derive measures and develop templates for security solutions. The team of safety and security specialists will set up complex networks zoned in accordance with IEC 62443 and secure them with devices and methods from Genua's security portfolio.
By using various process control systems, architectures can be implemented that come very close to the customer's real automation environment. Concepts and solutions are put through their paces in the Security Lab as part of penetration tests. At the same time, the specialists use their expertise to ensure that the IT/OT solutions are implemented in accordance with the latest norms and standards and comply with the strictest data protection laws.
"The Security Lab will enable our customers to build on existing and pre-tested Hima solutions and adapt them to specific projects. The practical experience gained here in training courses and workshops will help our customers to find answers to increasingly complex security issues," says Sergej Arent.
Based on the concept in Germany, the company is also planning to set up a security lab at the Customer Solutions Center Asia-Pacific in Singapore.
