Omron cooperates with Techman Robot

Omron has agreed a strategic partnership with the Taiwanese company Techman Robot, a provider of collaborative robotic arms. Omron will brand Techman's TM series in the future. Joint further developments are also planned.

In addition to the standard versions of the TM series collaborative robots, Omron will also offer new models that are "mobile-compatible", i.e. can be easily integrated into Omron's mobile LD robots. These robots, which can reliably avoid people and obstacles and therefore move autonomously, are already in use worldwide for the automation of material handling applications in which they work safely with people. Equipped with a collaborative robot arm, the machines can not only transport material from one location to another, but also perform tasks such as picking and placing parts (pick-and-place).

Omron and Techman Robot want to provide collaborative robots that can be used in applications such as the assembly of electronics or the testing and trialing of products.

"Since the acquisition of Adept Technology in 2015, Omron has invested significant resources in the development of robotics technologies and the expansion of the robotics market," says Seigo Kinugawa, Executive Officer and Senior General Manager of the Robotics Business Development Project of Omron's Industrial Automation Company. He adds: "The partnership with Techman is aimed at advancing the collaboration between humans and robots in production processes."

The TM robots have an integrated intelligent vision system that can be used for pattern recognition, object positioning and barcode identification. The robots meet the safety requirements for human-robot collaboration in accordance with ISO 10218-1 and ISO/TS 15066. The TM series is available in two versions: TM5 with a payload of up to 6 kg and the new TM12/TM14 with a payload of up to 14 kg. All TM robots have six degrees of freedom and a reach of 700 mm to 1300 mm.
