German Bionic
Exoskeleton with active walking support
The robotics company German Bionic has launched the fifth generation of the Cray X Smart Power Suit on the market. The latest power suit is now outdoor-capable, among other things.

The intelligent exoskeleton provides up to 30 kg of support per lift and has proven to be effective in protecting the lower back of employees lifting heavy loads - for example in companies such as BMW and Ikea as well as the international parcel delivery service DPD. The new functions of the latest generation of the Cray X expand the areas of application and use cases of the active exoskeleton.
The most important innovations include
- Active walking support: in addition to providing support when lifting heavy loads, the exoskeleton can now also provide relief when walking or climbing stairs by gently pushing the legs forward. According to German Bionic, this function makes the Cray X the first exoskeleton of its kind to support two parts of the body.
- Waterproof to IP54: The power suit has been successfully tested to the IP54 standard and therefore offers protection against splashing water on all sides as well as dust in damaging quantities. This means that, in addition to use in warehouses and other indoor areas, it can also be used in extremely wet and dusty working environments, for example on construction sites, in outdoor warehouses and workshops.
- More powerful 40 V platform and revised energy management system: A new 40 V battery and a completely revised energy management system improve the overall user experience. The 40 V platform is equipped with a hot-swapping function, eliminating work interruptions due to battery changes.
- Onboarding Assistant: A new onboarding assistant provides tips and instructions on the integrated display to help you get started working safer, healthier and more efficiently.
- Smart Safety Companion: The integrated AI-based ergonomics early warning system Smart Safety Companion opens up further potential for occupational safety in manual working environments. By warning of signs of incorrect posture and incorrect lifting practices, the software actively helps to prevent fatigue and the resulting errors and injuries.
- Integration into the digital workflow: Like its predecessor, the lightweight fifth-generation Cray X can be connected to the Industrial Internet of Things and all smart factory ecosystems.
The fifth generation of the exoskeleton will be available worldwide in early 2022.
