Automatica
Comeback after just one year
Automatica came to an end on June 30, 2023 after four days of trade fairs. "A brilliant comeback after just one year," Messe München, the organizer, proudly sums up.
40,000 visitors from around 88 nations and 650 exhibitors from 34 countries - these are the final figures for the trade fair for intelligent automation and robotics. The two trade fair directors Reinhard Pfeiffer and Stefan Rummel draw a positive balance: "automatica has once again demonstrated its great innovative strength. With forward-looking solutions, the participating companies showed in concrete terms how, among other things, the shortage of skilled workers can be compensated for. The successful interaction with the parallel events Laser World of Photonics and World of Quantum also strengthens Munich's position as a leading technology location."
On the exhibitor side, automatica received an excellent overall rating. In a survey conducted by the Gelszus opinion research institute, 94% of exhibitors rated the trade fair as excellent to good. The quality of the visitors (91%) and the increased proportion of new customers (85%) were particularly praised.
Frank Konrad, Chairman of the VDMA Automation + Robotics Association and CEO of Hahn Automation, shares this opinion: "automatica has been the most important trade fair for us as an automation company for almost 20 years. After a somewhat restrained comeback after Corona last year, this year saw higher visitor numbers again, which was a positive reflection for us as an exhibitor. We were able to hold many good discussions and maintain intensive contacts."
Marc Segura, President ABB Robotics, also expressed his satisfaction: "Robotics and AI are key technologies for a successful decade of transformation. This makes automatica all the more important as a leading trade fair and trend barometer for companies that want to make their production and logistics fit for the future - i.e. flexible, networked and sustainable."
In addition to the established key players, the Google subsidiary intrinsic took part in automatica for the first time this year. Henrike Neulen, Account Executive, explains why the Alphabet company chose automatica for the first trade fair in the company's history: "Our aim is to make robotics simpler and more accessible for both suppliers and users. automatica is therefore the right environment for us to present ourselves as a company and our products live to a broad international audience for the first time."
The top ten visitor countries after Germany were Austria, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, South Korea, China, Poland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and the USA. The proportion of international visitors was 33%.
Think tank for artificial intelligence
Now in its third edition as part of automatica, the high-tech platform munich_i has established itself as a format for robotics and AI. This year, the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI) at the Technical University of Munich once again provided orientation in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics and at the same time placed these developments in an ethical and social context. "The High-Tech Summit was once again an absolute highlight this year. Together with fascinating pioneers from industry, science and start-ups, we took a look into the future and discussed with our guests from politics how we want to shape it," summarizes munich_i Director Prof. Sami Haddadin.
munich_i consists of the Hightech Summit, the special robotics and AI show AI.Society and the hybrid robotics competition Robothon.
The next automatica will take place from June 24 to 27, 2025, once again in parallel with the Laser World of Photonics and the World of Quantum in Munich.
