IoT devices centrally managed

Rexroth and Bosch Connected Industry were showcasing their jointly developed device portal. OEMs, service providers, and end-users can then efficiently and remotely manage distributed IoT instances.

From the Device Portal, security and function updates can be monitored, configured and transmitted to all connected subscribers.

The device portal, says Dr Heiner Lang, head of the Automation & Electrification Solutions business unit of Bosch Rexroth, is focused on management of a worldwide installed device basis over the entire lifecycle: “Users thus have a complete overview of all IoT devices in the manufacturing network, and a possibility of remotely accessing these devices.“ The portal solution, says Rexroth, sets up on open standards, so other manufacturers can add further components. At last year‘s SPS IPC Drives show already, Rexroth presented their first IoT gateway based on IndraControl XM control hardware. In future the software can also operate on other platforms like the Linux-based IPC generation from Rexroth. To access production and machine data, the web-based tool can be linked by socalled device apps to a whole variety of sensors, servers, and controllers. Newly supported are the CISS multisensor from Bosch, the OPC UA predecessor OPC DA, and other third-party controller systems, including Beckhoff CX and Allen Bradley/Rockwell ControlLogix. Data are directed for analysis and evaluation by processing apps that, in addition to different cloud services and on-premises solutions, also support MES systems, plus offering a generic REST service. Last but not least, Rexroth is expanding its selection of motors: The high-torque MS2N servomotor now comes with an integrated encoder of category SIL3 PLe for demanding needs with SafeMotion.
