Signaling technology becomes intelligent

At SPS IPC Drives 2017, signaling device manufacturer Werma will be presenting complete signaling technology systems that can be retrofitted at any time, are intelligently networked, work "out-of-the-box" and can be used immediately.

Signaling technology also needs to be prepared for Industry 4.0 - in the case of Werma's systems through wireless or wired networking, among other things.

According to Werma, the systems help industrial companies to efficiently organize material supply, the production process and shipping logistics. They are partly based on wireless networking and are used for process optimization in industrial, production and shipping logistics, whereby machines, workstations or FIFO racks are networked with each other wirelessly. With their help, downtimes can be reduced and replenishment can be controlled automatically. If they are not networked wirelessly, the systems communicate via interfaces such as IO-Link, AS-Interface and USB.

At the trade fair, visitors will be able to examine three different systems in detail: While the retrofit solution 'StockSaver' for FIFO roller shelves realizes the Kanban, i.e. process control, of the third generation in production logistics, according to Werma, 'SmartMonitor' serves as an alternative to machine data acquisition systems in manufacturing companies. AndonSpeed' is an Andon system (visual management) for optimizing processes in the mail order business.

The 'StockSaver' retrofit solution for FIFO roller shelves enables automatic material requests, which, according to Werma, eliminates human error and makes safety stocks superfluous. 'StockSaver' is based on radio communication; the Kanban cards used in the past are no longer required, nor are scanning processes during removal. There are no incorrect or double bookings, and calculated stock levels are eliminated as a source of error. The intelligent reorder points in the FIFO shelf compartments ensure full transparency of the material stock and protect against incorrect stocking or idling thanks to automated material requests. The 'StockSaver' reporting points are suitable for all bins and all FIFO roller shelves.

'SmartMonitor' serves as a machine data acquisition system for industrial companies that want to collect data to optimize their production processes. The intelligent networking of signal towers creates a simple and retrofittable alternative to complex machine data acquisition systems.

'AndonSpeed' visually indicates where and what problems exist. The call and alarm system is quick to install and can be expanded on a modular basis. With the 'Head-of-Line' extension, the status of all workstations can be monitored centrally on a signal tower. Thanks to wireless networking, the system signals at the workstation, at the central control station or, if required, as a notification by e-mail.
