ABB
Robot installation via AR app
Deciding whether and how a robot fits into a particular process has never been easier with an augmented reality tool. ABB is now presenting a corresponding ARViewer.
The AR Viewer from ABB is now part of the PC-based offline programming software RobotStudio.
It can be used to test any model created in RobotStudio for the desired application. Users get a visual impression of the size and scale of a robot or robot cell and quickly recognize whether and how they fit into an existing production system. The underlying AR technology offers the option of embedding the model in the real production environment via smartphone or tablet, scaling it accordingly and viewing it from different angles.
What's more, the AR Viewer even shows the simulated model in action. Using the timeline function, users can check the cycle time or quickly jump to a specific point in the animation. This allows further optimizations to be explored or potential problems to be identified in advance.
The app is now available free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store and can be installed on any compatible device (iPhone 6s, iPad Pro and above and Android 7.0 and above with ARCore support). With the new AR Viewer, individuals and teams now have the opportunity to easily visualize their robot installations - without the possible concerns about comfort, hygiene or even dizziness that arise with alternative VR solutions.
The AR Viewer is particularly suitable for companies that want to get started with robot-assisted automation, as well as for those who have not yet had the time or resources to initiate the planning of a corresponding installation.
RobotStudio is available free of charge until December 31, 2020. ABB is also offering free training.
