Microsoft presents 'HoloLens 2'

As part of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Microsoft presented the new version of the mixed reality glasses 'Hololens'.

The 'Hololens 2' will initially be available later this year in the USA, Japan, China, Germany, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Australia and New Zealand at a price of 3,500 US dollars.

According to Microsoft, the new device has eliminated the key weaknesses of the previous model. For example, the field of view of the 'Hololens 2' has been more than doubled while retaining the holographic density of 47 pixels per degree of view. Microsoft has also revised the way in which holograms are used. The data glasses use the new time-of-flight depth sensor - which, combined with integrated AI and semantic understanding, enables the direct manipulation of holograms, similar to instinctive interaction with physical objects in the real world. The 'Hololens 2' also contains eye tracking sensors, which should make interaction with holograms even more natural.

Comfort was also previously a weak point, which Microsoft says has been eliminated through a more balanced center of gravity, the use of lightweight carbon fiber material and a new mechanism for tightening the device without readjustment. The company has also improved thermal management with a new vapor chamber technology and taken into account the great physiological variability in the size and shape of human heads by designing the data glasses so that they can be adjusted comfortably.

With new Microsoft mixed reality applications such as 'Dynamics 365 Remote Assist', 'Dynamics 365 Layout' and the new 'Dynamics 365 Guides', the time in which applications can be realized is to be accelerated.
