Immersive Field Simulator expanded to include AR
Honeywell has announced the addition of augmented reality to its Immersive Field Simulator (IFS). The platform uses a digital twin of a real plant to offer targeted on-demand training for industrial employees.
Honeywell is expanding its industrial training concept with augmented reality technology. The company's new Immersive Equipment Views, an iPad-exclusive iOS application, now combines real-world environments with digital features and content. Industrial users, who still have the option of using full virtual and mixed reality solutions, can now safely train their employees on a tablet from any location.
"As the industry works to regain the decades of experience lost due to the departure of longtime employees, Honeywell IFS provides a safe and interactive way to bring the mobile-first generation up to speed," said Pramesh Maheshwari, president of Honeywell Process Solutions. "Honeywell is committed to increasing the value and efficiency of our customers' workforces and industries worldwide."
With Honeywell Immersive Equipment Views added to the IFS offering, employees and trainees can troubleshoot and perform real-world tasks in a plant from an iPad. They have access to detailed information about internal parts and components of equipment, QR code-based scanning of machines and an education center with models and content for more comprehensive learning.
Honeywell's IFS is available in two add-on solutions:
- IFS Integrated with OTS - off-the-shelf software, the traditional solution that integrates with the existing training simulator.
- Standalone IFS - a new, standalone solution that is not connected to the backend of the training simulator and does not require OTS.
