The finalists for the 'Hermes Award 2019' have been announced! Deutsche Messe, organizer of the Hannover Messe, has made its decision. The winner will be announced by Federal Research Minister Anja Karliczek on March 31 following the opening ceremony of the industrial trade fair.
According to the Hermes Award jury, the nominated product 'NiTemp' from ABB is an innovative temperature measuring device with non-invasive sensor technology. In the process industry, temperatures inside pipes are usually measured invasively using built-in thermometers, whereby the pipes must be drilled through at the measuring point and a protective tube must also be installed. In contrast to existing measuring methods, 'NiTemp' measures the temperature on the surface and therefore eliminates the need for thermowells and direct intervention in the process. In addition to increased safety, the system also impresses in terms of reliability, accuracy, simplicity, temperature range and response times. As no shutdown is required for installation and service, system costs are lowered and capital expenditure reduced. Already successfully in use, the 'NiTemp' temperature measurement method is mainly used in the food and beverage industry, but also in the gas, oil and chemical industries.
