The award recognizes the development of the first global Manufacturing X solution with open standards for machine data, the 'X for Machinery architecture', as well as its first global implementation together with umati and T-Systems. For the first time, small and medium-sized companies in particular can experience its implementation and use it as a blueprint for their own easy access to data rooms. The 'X for Machinery architecture' is based on the rules of the International Data Space Association (IDSA). It uses the IEC standard OPC UA as well as companion specifications such as OPC UA for Machinery (40001) and is currently being further developed in the Factory-X project in the so-called MX port configuration Orion.

The award-winning implementation was presented to the global audience for the first time at Hannover Messe 2025. In this data space, live data from Asia, Brazil, Germany, Spain and the USA on the energy consumption of products was shared across countries and companies and a product carbon footprint (PCF) was calculated directly from this data. The award recognizes the data space implementation using the open standard OPC UA in conjunction with 'OPC UA for Machinery', which enabled Trimek's machines to be connected to the data space in a very short time. The underlying 'X for Machinery architecture' or its further development in the Orion MX port configuration enables companies to connect machines to the data space in an efficient and standardized way for the first time.

The prize is awarded each year by BAIDATA, an association that promotes data sovereignty and the data economy on the Iberian Peninsula. BAIDATA's aim is to support companies in the introduction and use of data spaces and thus promote the development of a trustworthy European data ecosystem.

"The recognition by BAIDATA confirms the relevance of our work for the future of industrial data spaces in Europe," says Andreas Faath, Head of the Machine Information Interoperability department at VDMA. "Together with our partner Trimek, we are committed to providing innovative and practical solutions for industry. Digitalization, interoperability and networking are not just abstract buzzwords - they are the keys to the future viability of our industry. And the data room is the central link," continues Faath.
