New VDMA network

Strengthens the networking of start-ups and mechanical engineers

Digitalization is shaping mechanical engineering and will play an even greater role in shaping the industry in the future. Young start-ups in particular often have ideas that could drive the market forward. The VDMA wants to help bring start-ups together with mechanical engineering companies.

In order to bring young companies and mechanical engineering companies into contact with each other, the VDMA is launching a new group, the Start-up Machine. The aim is to support start-ups and mechanical engineering companies in joint projects. The Start-up Machine website is already online.

The Start-up Machine aims to identify and validate start-ups that are working on future topics such as augmented reality, machine learning or blockchain. The aim is to find young companies that can advance mechanical engineering in Germany.

"Associations are service providers for their members. That's why we want to use the Start-up Machine to open up opportunities for our industry to successfully shape technological change," explains Hartmut Rauen, Deputy Managing Director of the VDMA. "Start-ups, especially in the areas of digitalization, Industry 4.0 or the electrification of vehicle drives, can be enriching with their innovations, but also with their way of working."

In return, the start-up companies are to be given access to the mechanical engineering industry. In this way, the young companies should be able to find out whether their ideas and projects are really suitable for the market.
