GEA and RebelDot establish joint venture
GEA and Romanian technology company RebelDot have formed a strategic joint venture to drive digital transformation in the global process industry. The company, named 'RebelDot Process Industries', will be headquartered in Cluj, Romania, and will start operations in January 2026.
The joint venture focuses on specialized software development services, including web, mobile and AI solutions that are specifically tailored to the requirements of industrial customers. It combines GEA's expertise in the process industry with RebelDot's software expertise. Together, the two partners support customers from the process and mechanical engineering industries in developing digital solutions faster, scaling them efficiently and operating them reliably. According to the companies, customers benefit from shorter development cycles, greater efficiency and cost-effective processes thanks to modern DevOps practices.
GEA has also established a dedicated software engineering team at RebelDot to jointly develop AI-based solutions - including the 'GEA Copilot', which supports customers' maintenance teams as a digital assistant for service tasks.
In 2024, RebelDot achieved growth of 40 percent in both turnover and the number of employees and now employs more than 300 specialists. The company maintains close ties with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. By acquiring an AI-specialized company, RebelDot has further expanded its expertise in the field of artificial intelligence - an important basis for supporting OEMs in the development of AI-supported applications and solutions in the future.
According to GEA, the GEA Cloud is one of the largest industrial cloud platforms in the process industry, connecting more than 10,000 process plants worldwide. The cooperation with RebelDot enables faster development cycles, greater agility and access to specialized expertise - based on GEA's open source software strategy.
At the beginning of 2025, GEA joined the Eclipse Foundation, an independent non-profit organization that promotes collaboration and innovation in open source software. Both GEA and RebelDot Process Industries will develop open source code in the future and actively contribute to the process industry software community.
One example of this is the 'Sealman' project, which provides machine manufacturers with an open source IIoT connectivity stack. This enables OEMs to focus on developing digital customer solutions while standardizing and simplifying the connectivity of their systems to their own cloud systems.
GEA is a systems supplier for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries and focuses on machinery and equipment as well as sophisticated process technology, components and comprehensive services. With more than 18,000 employees, the Group generated revenue of around EUR 5.4 billion in over 150 countries in the 2024 financial year.
