The digital transformation is also in full swing in the mechanical engineering sector. This is the conclusion reached by the VDMA Software and Digitalization Association in its 'IT Report 2018', for which around 100 companies were surveyed on investment projects and IT trend topics.

Webshops and digital spare parts catalogs have been among the top 10 investment projects in the industry since 2014. This year, they have now climbed to the top of the investment plans with an outstanding 38%. This means that their use in mechanical engineering will increase significantly once again, as around 40% of planned investments relate to new installations.
