Artificial intelligence
Germany is leading the way!
Germany is completely left behind when it comes to AI! - Not at all: a new study by the Capgemini Research Institute claims the opposite, especially for German industry.
A new study by the Capgemini Research Institute states that Europe, and Germany in particular, is leading the way in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in production processes. According to the study, 51% of the largest global manufacturing companies in Europe are implementing at least one AI use case. When introducing AI elements into the production process, manufacturers focus on three application scenarios: intelligent maintenance, product quality control and demand planning, according to the study's findings after analyzing 22 possible AI applications.
The study "Scaling AI in Manufacturing Operations: A practitioners' perspective" analyzes how AI applications are implemented and examined 300 top companies worldwide from the four sectors of industrial manufacturing, automotive, consumer goods, aerospace and defense. The results confirm the enormous potential that AI offers the industry in terms of lower operating costs, improved productivity and higher quality. According to the study, the world's leading manufacturing companies in Germany (69%), France (47%) and the UK (33%) are the pioneers in the use of AI elements in manufacturing.
Leading companies are using AI to their advantage across several production areas. One example of this is the food company Danone, which was able to reduce forecasting errors by 20 percent and avoid sales losses by 30 percent by using machine learning to predict fluctuations in demand. The tire manufacturer Bridgestone has also improved the uniformity of its products by over 15 percent by introducing a new assembly system with automated quality control.
