Safe control technology for Swedish rail network
Pilz has won a tender from the Swedish Transport Infrastructure Agency, Trafikverket, and has been awarded the contract to modernize the communications infrastructure along the nationwide rail network.
Trafikverket recently announced that Pilz had prevailed among the competitors in the 'Safe Relay Messages over Opto (SRO)' tender. This means that the infrastructure on railroad lines will be successively converted to digital technology. At 14,200 km, Trafikverket owns and manages the majority of the Swedish rail network. In future, the Pilz railroad control system will take over communication between the signal boxes and the control cabinets on the line based on the safe real-time Ethernet Safetynet p. This will make it possible, for example, to pass on information about the utilization of the line or to control signals. The digital I/O signals are transmitted via long-distance fiber optic connections. The Pilz solution also ensures safe operation in accordance with SIL4 and EN 50126.
