Hanover Fair
Engineer Powerwoman 2020 has been determined
Sophie Borgne is this year's winner of the 5,000 euro prize. She was named Engineer Powerwoman 2020 at the WomenPower event during the Hannover Messe Digital Days.
With the Engineer Powerwoman 2020 award, Deutsche Messe is honoring for the eighth time a pioneer from the STEM sector who sets innovative trends in the technical environment of her company through her commitment, her ideas and her work.
Sophie Borgne is Senior Vice President Digital Plant Business at Schneider Electric. Her work focuses on the Internet of Things and the associated optimization of traditional industrial automation. Since joining Schneider Electric in 2001, Sophie Borgne has worked internationally in Africa, China, France and Italy, leading teams in various roles. She regularly gives talks and shares her expertise on Industry 4.0. Sophie Borgne is also part of the 'Schneider Women in Tech' network as an ambassador. The aim is to break gender stereotypes and inspire young girls to pursue a career in technology, true to her motto 'Set yourself no limits and do what you want to do'.
The award is usually presented during the opening of the WomenPower career congress. As this could not be held as usual at Hannover Messe due to the coronavirus pandemic, the award ceremony was moved to the trade fair's digital event. The award ceremony took place in a virtual session after laudatory speeches by Elke Büdenbender, patron of the Klischeefrei initiative, and Prof. Barbara Schwarze, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Kompetenzzentrum Technik-Diversity-Chancengleichheit e. V.
