Two new safety modules for the compact PLCs from Mitsubishi Electric form the basis of an integrated safety system. A total of nine safety functions can be selected via the rotary switch on the front, which reduces commissioning. The status of both the standard controller and the safety control system can be monitored via a built-in web server in the PLC.

The safety module FS5-SF-MU4T5 and the expansion module for the safety input FX5-SF-8D14 are connected directly to the PLC. The safety I/Os are connected via spring terminals. A main safety module can provide four safety inputs and outputs when connected to an FX5 PLC. Two additional expansion modules can be connected to provide up to 20 safety inputs and four safety outputs.

An FX5 PLC can be combined with the safety modules to create a safety system that is certified in accordance with the international safety standards Category 4, PLe and SIL3.
