Partial takeover
Kontron takes over Fujitsu's industrial mainboards
As part of an asset deal with Fujitsu Technology Solutions, Kontron S&T acquires Fujitsu's industrial mainboard business based in Augsburg.
"Fujitsu's first-class motherboard portfolio is ideally complemented by our IoT software and services for IoT, Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence," explains Carlos Queiroz, COO of Kontron's parent company S&T AG. "In addition, Kontron knows the requirements of existing customers and is sending a clear signal as a future-oriented employer in Bavaria with this acquisition."
The Fujitsu Group announced the closure of the Augsburg site by the end of September 2020 in October last year. The transaction is subject to antitrust approvals. The handover of Fujitsu's operating business to Kontron is planned for October 2019. Kontron will also offer employment opportunities to suitable Fujitsu Technology Solutions employees with relevant qualifications in the areas of research, development, production and sales.
The existing Fujitsu mainboard business will be continued at the same high level of expertise and skills. Rupert Lehner, Head of Fujitsu Central Europe and EMEIA Products emphasizes: "With Kontron, a recognized provider of embedded computing is taking over our motherboard business. We are pleased that our customers will benefit from the continuation of our high-quality portfolio with this step. For them, the decision means continuity and planning security, and it will also help to preserve jobs in Augsburg."
