Launch of 'Invent a Chip 2020'Good ideas wanted

"Who has the best idea for a microchip?" is the task for the 'Invent a Chip' school competition initiated by the VDE and BMBF for the 19th time. Young talents who enjoy technology, science and mathematics are in demand.

A microchip for the automated school bag is the brainchild of Karolin Lohre (17) and Christoph Sieland (16) from Steinheim Municipal Grammar School. "It helps with packing school supplies and checks that everything is complete," explains the duo. A timetable is stored in a database and the packed books are identified using RFID chips and compared with the timetable. Their 'School Auxiliary System' also has an acoustic and visual back protection warning if the weight of the satchel is exceeded.
